EDUCATION
1984-92: studied transverse flute with Wolfgang Schulz and composition with Erich Urbanner at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, graduated with excellence
1992-95: Finished his studies in composition with Helmut Lachenmann at the Stuttgarter

PERFORMANCES:
The Musikbiennale Berlin, Vienna Modern, ensemble recherche, Klangforum Wien, ORF, the Salzburg Festival, Wien Modern, Musik der Jahrhunderte Stuttgart, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Steirischer Herbst, the SWF Baden-Baden, the Trio Accanto, Ensemble Modern, the Wiener Konzerthaus-Gesellschaft etc. have commissioned works from him. Among the conductors of his works are Sian Edwards, Dennis Russell Davies, Patrik Davin, Peter Eötvös, Beat Furrer, Pascal Rophé, Jürg Henneberger, Johannes Kalitzke, Ernst Kovacic, Dominique My, and Arturo Tamayo. Ensembles and orchestras that have played his works including Ensemble Modern, Klangforum Wien, ensemble recherche, trio recherche, L’instant Donnée – Paris, Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin, trio accanto, Ensemble Mosaik, the Hilversum Chamber Orchestra RSB Berlin, SWR Orchestra Freiburg and Baden Baden, RSO Vienna, KNM Berlin, the ensemble für neue musik zürich, Ensemble on line Vienna etc. His works have been heard at Wien Modern, Salzburg Festival, Hörgänge, Darmstadt, the Donaueschinger Musiktage (2001, 2005), the Forum junger Komponisten (Cologne, Dresden, Leipzig), the ISCM World Music Days (Stockholm), Musica Nova (Sofia), and seachange (Aberdeen, which also featured a portrait concert in 2001), Ultraschall Berlin 2006, Salzburg Festival (1999 and 2003). In addition, his music has been performed at the Musikbiennale Berlin, Nuovi Spazi Musicali, Schoenberg und die Folgen (Duisburg), and the Wires Performance Center for New and Experimental Music (Los Angeles).
AWARDS:
Among his awards are the Publicity-Preis of the SKE-Fond (1997), the Förderungspreis from the city of Vienna (1997), the Erste Preis (2003) and the DAAD “scolarship berlin artist residence” 2006
Since 2007 he is co-editor of „musiktheorien der gegenwart“, published by Pfau/Saarbrücken.
He has written essays that have appeared in numerous publications.
